| The President

The President is the Head of State. As indicated in Paragraph 1 of Article 30 of the Constitution the President is the Head of State and embodiment of the unity of the people. The President has the rights to veto laws and resolutions of the Parliament and renders support to various organizations exercising the legislative, executive and judicial powers in cooperation with each other. A indigenous citizen, who has attained the age of 45 years and has permanently resided as a minimum for the last five years in Mongolia , is eligible for election to the post of President for a term of four years. The presidential elections are held prior to expiry of the term of office of the President. Political parties, which have obtained seats in the SGH nominate Presidential candidates individually or collectively Presidential candidates, one candidate per party or a coalition of parties.
The State Great Hural considers the candidate who has obtained a majority of all the votes cast in the first voting as elected as President and thus passes a law recognizing his mandate. The Law on the President deals with rights of the President and other issues concerning the presidential elections that were drafted in strict conformity with of the Constitution. The President has his own office and appoints its Chairman and advisers. The President is the head of the National Security Council. This Council develops a state policy on ensuring the security and co-ordinates the implementation of such a policy.
